Citymax Bur Dubai Review

November 29, 2015
So, the weekend has ended and as I would, once a month I stayed and try hotels around Dubai. This review is dedicated for Citymax hotel located in Bur Dubai. The booking was made through getaroom.com at 82.91 USD for one night, standard room. Citymax is a three star property so there’s nothing much to expect but just a typical hotel room.

Arrived at the hotel 2 hours late than the standard check-in time and the lobby was jam packed of arrivals and departures for the day and most of their guest are blatantly Caucasians. The lobby was very loud because of the flock of people at that time, it’s also where their food outlets nest and I have to commend that they have a huge variety of outlets to choose from and the taste is literally good. I have dined with Sizzling Wok which I’ll probably make a separate review, because the food deserves to be glorified.

Anyhow, reception people are professional despite busy times. I was assisted by Emmanuel of FO and he was really accommodating even though the booking was not entered on their system yet. After an approximate 10 minutes at the desk, keys were given for room 546.

The room

The closet, well I actually don’t know if it should be called a closet because it does not have any doors on it nor a bathrobe (of course it’s a 3 star). It’s just an open space with hangers on it.

The service

The service is standard fine. They were accommodating from the reservations team, to reception, to housekeeping, food attendants, well, maybe I can say “a bit” (I don’t know what happened with the service industry nowadays).

The Location

It is nearly perfect if you want to be near the malls and metro station. Cabs are available anytime outside the hotel and they have this limousine service at the reception which will cost you more than a normal cab, but if you wish to have a classy ride then book them. Nearest metro station is Al Fahidi which is part of green line metro system. Near Burjuman mall and Sun and Sands outlet store for your sporty dreams (this is where I usually buy my sports clothes and shoes).

Jyothis grocery store is just a 2 minutes walk from the hotel, so this is a perfect place to grab shampoo and toothpaste which you need during your stay in case you’ve not brought along some with you.

Dining Options

The hotel has three restaurants and one café and as mentioned they’re all located at the lobby. I have specifically tried Sizzling Wok which is an Asian infused cuisine and I must say that the food is pretty much delicious and price would range at AED 150 for two including drinks, I felt bad that I just learned about the 20% discount on all Emirates NBD card holder I could’ve gotten myself some good slack from what I was spent.

If you want to stay in a hotel where beers and liquors freely circulate, this is the best place to be. They even have more than enough amazing promotions that lets you have a good dib on beers and wines while enjoying a normal meal such as steak at a very affordable price. Read through all their posters and you’ll realize you’ll benefit a lot as an in-house guest when you dine with them; guest can get 15% discount on the total ala carte bill and might as well get free wine eh?

To wrap the review I can say that this hotel is like a casual place to just sleep. Perfect for backpackers and for those who basically have planned their whole trip outside to explore the city. The restaurant options are commendable, which in my opinion is the highlight of Citymax.

Total Score is 3.5
